This month SC Torpedoes ran an Aquatic Helpers Course for 15 of our 13-16 age group players.
This is part of the ASA accredited training programme. This workshop is designed to give our players a basic understanding of coaching techniques, explain how to watch for general poolside safety issues and understanding how people develop skills and general good poolside safety practices. It is also great for the young person’s Curriculum Vitae and provides a step up into the ASA/ UKCC Level 1 Courses
The course ran over two nights, the 1st evening in a classroom session at Beacon Hill School learning the theory. The 2nd night was more exciting with our delegates working pool side with some of younger players putting that theory into practice
Thank you to Sue for giving up her time to run the course, our delegates for taking the course and big thank you to our younger players and (and parents for bringing them) for supporting fellow club members to gain this qualification.
Let hope we will see some these newly trained Aquatic Helpers helping as regulars supporting the younger player training sessions.
The committee is pleased to to announce two ASA sanctioned training opportunities for Junior players and older Inter’s.
Club Captains Course – a 90min “free” online interactive session booked via IOS – to explain the Club Captains role
It is not SC Torpedoes philosophy to formally name club captains, but would be pleased if some of our more senior players took advantage of this opportunity. You book on-line directly (see the flyer)

Aquatic Helper Workshop.
Sue is planning to run an aquatics helper workshop on Thurs 21st and Fri 22nd Nov 6.30 – 9.30pm, aimed at the 13-16 year old members of the club
This workshop has been designed for young people between 13 and 16 years of age, who wish to actively assist on poolside in any aquatic environment. These people might include young volunteers, young people who would like to help in Learn to Swim schemes and Club Captains. It is great for retention of athletes for the club and increases the number of volunteers. It is also great for the young person’s Curriculum Vitae and provides a step up into the ASA/ UKCC Level 1 Courses Cost of the course is £5 per learner- this covers the administration and an official certificate upon completion. Each learner should be a member of the ASA or the IOS.
The cost is £5 per delegate plus any venue hire (hoping this will be a nil cost to us). SC Torpedoes will collect your fees as the club has to settle directly with IOS
The process to apply for this course is as follows
1. email me with confirmation you wish to attend
2. I will email you the link with a voucher code which you can use to book your course on the IOS system (could take a few days)
3. Book your place on the IOS system
4. Attend the event.
5 . Once we have agreed how to track the fee will let you know how to pay SC Torpedoes for the course for the course.
