A frustrating evening for our U15s outclassed by a much stronger side. Unlike Basildon last week at least Ipswich did field a mixed team, although do not remember there one girl player Dawn getting much match time. The Torpedoes gave it everything and again all our shots were attracted to the post or cross bar. In the end the Ipswich players strength, speed and tactics meant there was little Pheobe and then Erin could do to protect the Torpedoes goal despite both of them making a number of exceptional saves throughout the match. Success For Suffolk at the Junior Inter-County Championships
Suffolk Girls Win Gold At The Championship and Suffolk Boys Win Bronze!
The ASA Junior Inter-County Championships was held at Basildon Sports Village on Saturday 1st March 2014 for players born in 1997 or later. The Suffolk Girls team included the following SC Torpedoes players:
- Phoebe Vale (in goal)
- Jess Temple
- Ellisse Morey
- Brooke Flower
- Faye Herman
- Erin Scarce
- Kirsty Logan
In the final match against Essex, Suffolk went 3:0 down but then after digging deep and managing to equalise, the Suffolk girls realised they could win if they played as team. It was an extremely close and exciting match but Suffolk girls closely marked Essex’s key player to gain possession and maintain their lead. The last 2 minutes were extremely tense until the final whistle when the noise level increased to a deafening level! The atmosphere was electric.
The Suffolk Boys team included our very own Conall Smyth, Josh Mclean and Matt Griggs. With Essex and Herts both having entered 2 teams into the competition, the boys had to play a total of 4 games but after beating Essex B and Herts B they came 3rd in the competition which is a brilliant achievement.

Despite the arrival of the SC Torpedoes club tee shirts and hoodies’s, it was not enough to change our fortunes ., Our U15s Mixed side lost 0-8 to a Basildon U15s side on Friday. The team played well but for some reason our shots were attracted to the pots and crossbar rather than the back of the net. Next up our local rivals Ipswich next friday..
