Please see Chris’s report (plus some editorial changes) on last weekend ASA U14 Inter-Regional Championship in Liverpool.
Congratulations to our own SC Torpedoes player Paige from our Inter/Junior section who was selected to represent the region as a member of the East Angels Water polo team who competed in a national tournament in Liverpool at the weekend –
Paige was the youngest of the girls in the East Angels team that made the long trip to Liverpool and came back from the tournament as Champions of the UK.
Yes you read it right East Angels are the national U14s CHAMPIONS and Paige (11) was one of them.
East Angels played 5 matches in total at the tournament were unbeaten on the way to claiming the title. The girls finished the top of pool A drawing 12:12 with East Midlands and beating North West Thunder 9:7 and London 8:4.
Sunday and the Semi final against the North East Steel. East Angels were on fire and won the match 19:3 the highest score of the weekend.
Final against North West Lightning and the atmosphere was noisier than Anfield with chants of Lightning and Angels from the two sets of Supporters.
This was the hardest game and the Angels took the lead early and at the start of the last minute were 6:3 in from. Paige having been in the pool once already now found herself doing pit defence against a current GB talent player and totally dominating her in the play. North west scored with 20 seconds left but it was too little too late and the East Angels have done something never before achieved by a team from the East.
Paige scored 2 goals against the North West thunder one where her tenacity forced the goalkeeper into the goal.
Well done Paige we are proud of you.
