Deben finish 3rd in the 2012 East Region summer cup.
A very young Deben team competed effectively in this years under 14’s summer cup against teams from Basildon Ipswich Chelmsford and Colchester at the Royal Hospital school on the outskirts of Ipswich. Deben had 4 players born in 2001 which made them one of the youngest teams in the competition. The team started against a young Ipswich team in the first game of the tournament. First period goals from Rufus Church and Kieran Harris saw Deben take a comfortable 2.0 lead in to the half time break. After the break Deben added to the lead with a goal from Rufus Church before Ipswich pulled one back. Final score 3.1 a good start.
Deben’s second game saw them come up against the tournaments surprise team of Colchester. Deben were soon on the defensive and but for good goalkeeping from Robert Johnson they would have been more than 3 goals behind at the break. Deben fought back after the interval with a goal from Kieran Harris to at least draw the second half. Final score 4.1
The 3rd game saw Deben playing against a stronger and older Basildon team
Who had already beaten Chelmsford 4.1 and Ipswich 8.0. Deben performed well but Basildon were much too strong and eventually Deben went down 6.0.
Final game and a chance to finish either 3rd or pick up the wooden spoon saw Deben take on Chelmsford who had the tournaments star player in Danni Brazier. Deben’s Kirsty Logan proved her defensive qualities by man marking Danni and stopping her having a single shot on target. Deben were so dominant due to Kirsty’s efforts that it seemed Chelmsford could not get near the ball. A goal from Rufus Church saw Deben take the lead before an equalizer from Chelmsford early in the second half evened things up. In an exciting last minute Deben then made their possession count when Kieran got the winner with only 35 seconds remaining in the game.
