CONGRATULATIONS to Suffolk Girls who beat Essex 27-6 on Sunday to win the East Region Junior Water Polo Championship and retain the Jill Morton Memorial Trophy.
The teams met at Basildon Sporting Village with depleted squads. Both were without top players (away at a GB Talent training weekend) and winter germs accounted for other absentees.
The young Essex team fought valiantly but were unable to match Suffolk’s Evie Granat (pictured right receiving the trophy from Andy Morton) and Ellisse Morey who scored seven goals apiece. Rachael Moore scored four of the Essex total with Helena Wright and Hope Kannor collecting one each.
Past President Andy Morton presented the trophy to Suffolk and thanked all the girls for their efforts.
The development of girls’ water polo is one of East Region’s strategic priorities and we look forward to our younger players boosting the county squads in future years.
